Surgery represents a medical discipline employing manual and instrumental techniques for exploring and treating pathological conditions, such as diseases or injuries, aiming to enhance bodily function or appearance. The Department of General Surgery is the focal point for preoperative and postoperative care.
Within this department, a comprehensive range of major emergencies and planned surgical procedures are addressed, encompassing surgeries related to the gastrointestinal tract (GIT), plastic surgery, vascular surgery, hernia repair, and urology procedures. Undergraduate students (UGs) acquire knowledge in the field through a blend of theoretical and practical approaches. They gain valuable experience in Operation Theatre procedures, allowing them to observe surgical interventions in an audio-visual setting.
UGs also undergo instruction in fundamental surgical skills such as suturing, knotting, venous cut down, catheterization, and more. The learning process is facilitated by well-trained specialists in urology, pediatric surgery, vascular surgery, surgical oncology, plastic surgery, trauma, emergencies, hernia, hydrocele, appendix, thyroid diseases, skin diseases, breast soft tissues, and venous disorders like varicose veins and peripheral vascular disease (PVD), among other areas of expertise.
