Microbiology

About the Department

The microbiology department actively delivers microbiology science through innovative pedagogical practices in medical education. It provides high-quality clinical diagnostic services to the hospital, with core expertise in immunology, serology, HIV testing and surveillance, bacteriology (enteric & non-enteric culture), mycology, parasitology, and virology within our hospital setting.

Our laboratories, equipped with world-class infrastructure and automation, function independently to ensure efficiency.

Key features of the department include a focus on infection control and waste management, emphasizing prevention, diagnosis, and cure. The department plays a crucial role in testing, teaching, and conducting clinical research.

The course offered by the department centers around infectious diseases, covering their causes and the necessary treatments. Problem-based training approaches such as role-play and model-making are often employed to enhance student learning.

Distinguished by high-end infrastructure, the Department of Microbiology features seven labs, each dedicated to specific sub-streams, including aerobic, anaerobic, TB, virology, mycology, serology, and parasitology.

Students training under this department have exclusive access to the Central Research Lab and Central Museum, integrating the disciplines of Microbiology, Pathology, Pharmacology, Anatomy, and Forensic Medicine under one roof. This environment fosters integrated learning and encourages discoveries.
