Pharmacology

About the Department

The Department of Pharmacology at Sri Satya Sai University of Technology and Medical Sciences in Hosur focuses on the following CBME (Competency-Based Medical Education) core competencies:

  • Pharmacotherapeutics: Delve into the realm of effective and safe use of medicines, exploring drug composition, properties, interactions, toxicology, therapy, and medical applications.
  • Pharmacovigilance: Our dedicated Pharmaco-Vigilance Centre ensures the collection of reports, providing crucial evidence to the National Centre when needed.
  • Pharmacogenomics: Explore the fascinating intersection of pharmacology and genomics to understand how genetic factors influence individual responses to drugs.
  • Experimental Pharmacology: Engage in hands-on exploration of the effects drugs have on the human body, contributing to a deeper understanding of their applications during disease incidence.

Pharmacology, the study of how drugs interact with living organisms to produce changes in function, is a medical science concerned with the safe and effective use of medicines. It encompasses drug composition, properties, interactions, toxicology, therapy, and medical applications.

As a department, Pharmacology delves into the effects drugs have on the human body and their utility during the incidence of diseases.

The learning experience for undergraduate students involves a combination of theory and observation, with students encouraged to undertake short-term projects for a deeper understanding of the subject. The department houses its Pharmaco-Vigilance Centre, collecting reports to provide evidence to the National Centre as needed.

Students can access the Central Museum, an integrated microbiology, pathology, pharmacology, anatomy, and forensics hub. This setting fosters an environment of integrated learning and discovery.
