About the Department

The Department of Respiratory Medicine at Sri Satya Sai University of Technology and Medical Sciences specializes in providing care for critical pulmonary conditions and diseases related to the lungs.

Pulmonologists within the department undergo specialized training in addressing various diseases and conditions of the Respiratory System. This includes expertise in managing Asthma, allergies, COPD, Tuberculosis, Pneumonia, ILDs, Sarcoidosis, Lung malignancy, pleural diseases, and other complex chest infections.

Undergraduates in this field are instructed to take detailed patient histories and conduct respiratory system examinations. They familiarize themselves with procedures performed on outpatients and learn to advise patients on using respiratory devices. Additionally, they are introduced to Spirometry and its interpretation.

Students are provided knowledge of Pleural aspiration, Pleural biopsy, Intercostal tube drainage, and Bronchoscopy procedures. The department participates in the Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme (RNTCP).

A Sleep Lab within the department offers Complete Polysomnography and Limited Polysomnography facilities, providing valuable insights for students engaged in research activities. This exposure allows them to gain an understanding of Sleep-related Breathing disorders and their management.
